Maria Casado

Maria Casado
A French artist and graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles, Maria Casado combines performance and historical research in her practice. During a residency, she created Agata Vulcano, a performance inspired by the life of Saint Agatha of Catania, a Christian martyr of the 3rd century. The work revisits the legend in which Agatha, refusing a forced marriage proposed by proconsul Quintianus, was arrested, tortured, and subjected to the amputation of her breasts, asserting her spiritual devotion and resistance.
