Ieva Maurite

Ieva Maurīte (born 1971, Riga) is a Latvian artist whose practice focuses on painting and drawing. She graduated from the Art Academy of Latvia, Department of Graphics, in 2000 and has been a member of the Artists’ Union of Latvia since 1998. Since the late 1990s, she has held around twenty solo exhibitions and participated in more than seventy group shows in Latvia and abroad.

Maurīte was nominated for the Purvītis Prize in 2009 for her exhibition Green Line. Her work emerges from the traditions of graphic art: precise lines, reduced forms and symbolic figures placed in calm, monochrome spaces. Everyday elements—cows, houses, waves, faces—are transformed into meditative signs that suggest both personal and universal narratives.

She has taken part in several prestigious international residencies, including Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris), SIM (Reykjavík), Kunstschule Liechtenstein, and BBK Bremen.
