Born in 1976 in Heilbronn, Alex Tennigkeit lives and works in Berlin. Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, she was a student of Andreas Slominski’s master class. A founding member of the MalerinnenNetzWerk Berlin-Leipzig, she has exhibited in renowned galleries in Germany. Her work draws from an omnipresent flow of media images, which she merges with historical references to create highly symbolic works. Her works oscillate between concrete existential themes and superficial motifs of desire, often imbued with irony. She uses her own body as an artistic material to explore themes of death, violence, and identity, thus creating modern and subjective allegories.
